WHO WE ARE:

Lakewood Citizens Alliance is a is a self-funded, local, grassroots organization made up of people of all walks of life and interests with the common goal of preserving the natural character and beauty of Lakewood while planning for responsible, and intelligent growth 

OUR STORY

This movement was formed after the Lakewood City Council presented and passed 4 zoning ordinances in the fall of 2025 that would radically change land use and development in our city. 

In an effort to allow the citizens, not just the city council, to have a voice in the future development of our city, 2 Petitioners filed 4 referendums to pause the zoning and put it to a public vote.  Each referendum required a minimum of 3517 signatures to be gathered in a matter of a few weeks time.  In total, over 15,000 signatures were verified by the City Clerk, as neighbors from all across Lakewood united around shared concerns for their city and neighborhoods.

OUR MISSION:

We believe in bringing transparency to the decisions currently being made behind closed doors, and meaningful engagement and education of citizens on issues that are fundamental changes to the communities they invested in.  We believe in responsible, intelligent growth and feel it is critical to plan for growth along with the preservation of Lakewood’s beauty and charm at the forefront. Relentless pursuit of density without preserving the core neighborhoods and city character is the opposite of responsible growth.  Embracing a plan/vision for the future that is forward thinking and provides opportunity for all includes the enjoyment of open space, preservation of owners’ land rights, a protection of wildlife corridors and its magnificent trees and landscape architecture, sunlight and play space for our children and the continued commitment to the enhancement of the community in which we all reside and for the generations to come.
